Justin Fields becomes third NFL QB to rush for more than 1,000 yards in a season

-Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields has some work to do as a pure passer (though perhaps not as much as his detractors believe), but there is no questioning his effectiveness as a runner. The second-year Ohio State product came into Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles with 905 rushing yards on the season, and he quickly bumped things up to over 1,000 rushing yards in 2022.

Preposterous plays such as this 39-yard run surely helped him along the way.

Fields is now the third quarterback in pro football history to eclipse the 1,000-yard mark as a runner, joining Michael Vick (1,039) for the 2006 Atlanta Falcons, and Lamar Jackson, who has done it twice, with 1,206 yards for the 2019 Baltimore Ravens, and 1,005 yards for the Ravens in the following season.

Interestingly enough, the Bears are the only team in pro football history with two quarterbacks who have run for more than 900 yards in a season — Bobby Douglass ran for 968 yards for the 1972 team, and that was the record for a quarterback until Vick broke it in 2006.
