Justin Bieber told fans to “relax” after Shawn Mendes ‘liked’ an Instagram photo of his wife Hailey Baldwin.
Mendes and Baldwin sparked romance rumours last year when they attended the Met Gala together, shortly before the model rekindled her relationship with now-husband Bieber.
The singer posted a series of uncaptioned photos of his wife on Instagram yesterday, and Baldwin fan account @hailsbuzzle noted that Mendes liked an image of the 22-year-old sitting in a car, sharing a screenshot as proof.
Bieber quickly shrugged off any speculation over Mendes’ action, commenting: “They're friends relax (sic).”
Baldwin and Mendes never officially confirmed their relationship, with the Canadian musician telling Rolling Stone magazine last November that he didn’t “wanna put a title on it,” describing the time they’d spent together as “a zone of limbo.”
He went on to reveal that he had reached out to Baldwin after learning of her engagement, telling the magazine: “I texted Hailey, ‘Congratulations,’ and I really am happy for them.
“She’s still one of the f****** coolest people ever – she’s not just a beautiful person visually, but she’s one of the most beautiful hearts I’ve ever met.”
Last month, Baldwin opened up about how “scary” it is to be married at such a young age, in a special Valentine’s Day interview with friend Kendall Jenner.
“It’s definitely scary to be this young and be married. It’s a scary thing but it’s also the person that I’ve literally been in love with so many years,” she told her fellow model.
“I feel like he’s my best friend,” she continued. “And we just get to do life together forever, now. I think the forever aspect for me is just like, you don’t think about that until you get married.”
The pair officially tied the knot last September in a low-key ceremony at a courthouse in New York, and are thought to have postponed plans for a bigger celebration for family and friends to allow Bieber, 24, to “focus on getting well mentally.”
