Despite the fact he may be on something of a hiatus for the time being, Justin Bieber’s music hasn’t stopped racking up millions of plays on streaming services, and in fact, some of his most popular tracks may be performing even better since his fans know no new tunes are imminent (or are they?). The singer-songwriter just made history on Spotify once again, which seems to be something he manages to do every few months.
Bieber has just become the first musician to see half a dozen songs hit one billion streams on the platform. This success comes just a short time after he became the first artist with five singles that each have at least one billion streams.
Joining the billion-stream club is Bieber’s own smash “What Do You Mean?,” which introduced his latest album Purpose back in 2015. The song debuted at No. 1 on the Hot 100, becoming the Canadian pop icon’s first leader in the U.S. It was also the first of three chart-toppers from Purpose, which would go on to become the singer’s most successful album by many metrics.
Bieber now claims six songs with a billion streams on Spotify alone (and that’s to say nothing of how well these tracks have performed on other streaming sites like Apple Music and YouTube), and the list contains a healthy mix of songs he fronted as well as those powered by other acts, but which feature his vocals.
The musician has landed plenty of hit singles in his time, but it will be a little while before another one of Bieber’s songs breaks into the billion-stream club…though it doesn’t look like any musician is challenging him for the title of the most such entries.
