Justin Bieber hails wife Hailey Baldwin on new solo single Yummy

Justin Bieber has debuted Yummy, his first new solo single in five years.

The 25-year-old pop star teased the song to his 124 million Instagram followers on Christmas Eve, revealing in a short film that it would be the lead single for a new album arriving in 2020.

The Canadian pop star then made Yummy widely available on multiple outlets including: Spotify, Amazon Music, iTunes Store, Google Play, Pandora, Deezer and Tidal on Friday (January 3) morning.

“I’m elated that you are my lady,” Bieber falsettos halfway through the track, likely referring to his wife Hailey Baldwin, who he described ahead of the song’s release as his Christmas “gift”.

Yummy features low-key synths, bass and mostly restrained vocals from the star and his frequent collaborator Jason 'Poo Bear' Boyd is listed as a co-writer and producer.

Bieber addresses his own success on the track he sings about driving a Lamborghini, wearing his fashion line’s “Drew House slippers” and getting help to spend one “hundred racks” or $100,000 (£76,000).

In the short film released before Christmas, Bieber said: “I feel like this is different from previous albums just because of where I am in my life. I’m excited to perform on the tour.

“As humans, we are imperfect. My past, my mistakes, all the things I have been through. I believe I am right where I am supposed to be and God has me right where he wants me.”

The singer released his fourth studio album Purpose in 2015 and has not released an album since. He is yet to announce the release date for his new album.

Bieber will embark on a US tour between May and September 2020, but no UK dates have been announced.

In March 2019, he announced on Instagram that he was taking a break from his music career to work on fixing "deep rooted issues [...] so that I can sustain my marriage and be the father I want to be."

The Sorry singer is also set to debut a 10-episode YouTube Originals documentary series, Seasons, which will be out at the end of January.
