Justin Bieber among millions to have personal details stolen in MGM Resorts hack

Justin Bieber is among the millions of people that are feared to have had their personal details leaked following the hacking of MGM Resorts.

The stolen information, which was said to have been hacked from the hotel group last summer, affects an estimated 10.6million people.

Hackers are reported to have obtained details such as names, addresses and passport numbers from people who had stayed at the resorts.

And it's thought the data stolen concerns anyone staying at the resorts up until 2017 - which includes the Yummy singer as well as Twitter founder Jack Dorsey.

MGM Resorts said it was “confident” no financial information had been exposed.

A spokesperson said: "Last summer, we discovered unauthorised access to a cloud server that contained a limited amount of information for certain previous guests of MGM Resorts.

"We are confident that no financial, payment card or password data was involved in this matter.

“MGM Resorts promptly notified guests potentially impacted by this incident in accordance with applicable state laws.”

The company told their impacted guests about the hack in 2019 - and around 1,300 guests were notified that very sensitive information such as passport details were stolen.

It told ZDNet that it had also hired cyber security firms to conduct an investigation into the hack.

The company said: "At MGM Resorts, we take our responsibility to protect guest data very seriously, and we have strengthened and enhanced the security of our network to prevent this from happening again."

MGM Resorts, which has hotels across the country, attracts thousands to guests to its Las Vegas resort for casino and sporting events.
