Justin Baldoni Publicly Addresses Blake Lively Lawsuit For First Time In Two Years

Justin Baldoni has spoken publicly for the first time following the resolution of his legal dispute with Blake Lively, which stemmed from their work on the 2024 film It Ends With Us.

In a video shared to Instagram, Baldoni appeared alongside his wife, Emily Baldoni, explaining why they had remained silent throughout the lengthy legal process.

“We have not spoken publicly for the better part of the last two years, and it’s not because we haven’t had anything to say,” Baldoni said. “Because lord knows we have, but it just felt like every time we went to make a video like this… it just didn’t feel like the right time.”

Emily added, “This feels like the moment… There’s so much to say.”

The comments come after both parties reached a settlement in May, bringing an end to a dispute that began in December 2024 when Lively filed a lawsuit alleging sexual harassment and retaliation. Baldoni denied the allegations and later filed a $400 million countersuit against Lively, Ryan Reynolds and others, which was ultimately dismissed.

According to a post-settlement filing, Lively agreed to dismiss her remaining claims “without the Wayfarer Defendants paying a cent” of the $300 million in damages she had sought. Baldoni’s lawyer, Bryan Freedman, described the outcome as a “total victory” for his clients.

However, Lively has preserved a motion in California that could allow her to pursue legal fees and additional damages related to Baldoni’s previously dismissed defamation claim. A federal judge had already ruled she is entitled to attorneys’ fees tied to that counterclaim, though requests for further damages were denied.

In their video, the Baldonis spoke candidly about the toll the past two years have taken.

“Gratitude has saved us,” Baldoni said, while Emily noted that their experience included “a lot of trauma” and “pain”.

“We don’t even know if this is the right thing to say,” Baldoni continued. “What I will say is that there have been so many painful things that have been spoken into existence over the last couple of years… We didn’t want to add to the noise. So we just wanted to let the justice system run its course.”

He added, “We are healing. If you’ve ever been through something traumatic, you know that healing isn’t linear.

“It looks different every day. We have had to rethink for ourselves what is real. And what matters. It’s our family. It’s our friends. It’s our community who have been there for us. It’s our faith.”

A joint statement released by attorneys for both sides following the settlement acknowledged the challenges of the process, stating: “We acknowledge the process presented challenges and recognise concerns raised by Ms. Lively deserved to be heard… It is our sincere hope that this brings closure and allows all involved to move forward constructively and in peace.”

The film at the centre of the dispute, adapted from Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel, was a commercial success, grossing more than $350 million globally.

For now, Baldoni said he and his family are focused on moving forward. “There’s so much more to say. The time will come. But for now, we are going to focus on continuing the healing… and enjoying life.”
