BHOPAL/JABALPUR: Newly appointed Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh high court, Justice Ravi Malimath, will take oath of office at Raj Bhavan on Wednesday.
He replaces Justice Mohd. Rafiq, who has been transferred as Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh high court. Justice Malimath will be 26th Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh when he is administered oath by Governor Mangubhai Patel at 11.45am on Wednesday.
Justice Ravi Malimath was born to a family of legal luminaries in Karnataka on May 25, 1962. His grandfather, Justice S Malimath, was a judge in Mysore high court and his father Dr Justice VS Malimath served as a judge of Karnataka high court, who went on to become Chief Justice of Karnataka and Kerala high courts.
Justice Ravi Malimath graduated in commerce from M E S College, Bangalore, and completed his law degree from Sri Jagadguru Renukacharya College of Law. He practiced in all fields of law, such as constitutional, civil, criminal, labour and service, before being appointed an additional judge of Karnataka high court on February 18, 2008, and as a permanent Judge on February 17, 2010.
He was transferred as a judge of the Uttarakhand high court and was administered oath of office on March 5, 2020. He was appointed as acting Chief Justice of Uttarakhand high court on July 26, 2020, and was transferred to Himachal Pradesh high court, where he took oath on January 7, 2021.
