Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan rejects claims he is 'negligent' after criticism over Garda resources

Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan has blasted claims he is “negligent” and gardai are poorly resourced.

The charge came from Damien McCarthy, who represents rank and file officers in Dublin South Central.

On Monday he criticised the Minister’s attitude and said Commissioner Drew Harris’ decision to reduce this year’s intake of new recruits from 800 to 600 was “mind-boggling”.

However, Mr Flanagan said: “We have a total of 300 new vehicles coming on stream this year over 10% of which have already been purchased. I’m satisfied we’re rolling out state-of-the-art ICT equipment.”

However, GRA president Jim Mulligan said officers were “weary” of hearing about ideas the State doesn’t have the money to make into reality.

He added members have not seen any major changes to improve their working conditions.

Mary Lou McDonald claims Minister for Justice has not provided gardai with resources to tackle Drogheda feud
