'Justice for George' - Kylian Mbappe and Weston McKennie show support for George Floyd as US protests continue

World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe and USA star Weston McKennie displayed their support for George Floyd as protests continue to flare up across the United States following his death.

Mr Floyd died on Monday after former police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck for at least eight minutes. Floyd had been arrested in Minneapolis for allegedly attempting to use counterfeit money.

Video of Mr Floyd's death has gone viral and has sparked riots in cities across the US for four days so far, with protesters chanting "we can't breathe" and "black lives matter."

Chauvin, 44, has since been fired by the Minneapolis Police Department, and has been charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.

The '#JusticeforFloyd' hashtag has been shared by millions worldwide, with 21-year-old Paris Saint-Germain and France forward Mbappe offering his support via Twitter on Saturday.

His message has already been retweeted over 23,000 times.

In Germany, Schalke midfielder McKennie wore a personalised ‘Justice for George’ armband during his side’s Bundesliga clash against Werder Bremen.

The Washington-born 21-year-old, who has won 19 caps playing for the USMNT, tweeted: "To be able to use my platform to bring attention to a problem that has been going on to long feels good!!! We have to stand up for what we believe in and I believe that it is time that we are heard! #justiceforgeorgefloyd #saynotoracism".
