Justice delayed as juror removed

GONE: Danielle Easey was murdered and her body dumped in Cockle Creek.

THE trial of a former couple accused of murdering Danielle Easey and dumping her body in Cockle Creek has been delayed at least eight months after a juror realised they had a connection to the case. Justin Kent Dilosa and Carol Marie McHenry had pleaded not guilty to murdering Ms Easey at Narara in August 2019 and were due on Monday to face the first day of a trial in Newcastle Supreme Court.

Ms McHenry had pleaded guilty to being an accessory after the fact to murder.

Justice Helen Wilson said that after the jury had been empanelled on Thursday, one of the jurors realised a family member knew the parents of one of the accused. That juror was discharged and then Justice Wilson made the decision to discharge the remaining jurors to avoid starting the estimated five-week trial with only 11 members.

The trial was unable to re-commence this week with a new jury because of limited prospective jurors and Justice Wilson said the earliest it would be able to start was in July or August 2022.
