'Choke and die' message after JustEat customer asked for a refund

Takeaway delivery giant JustEat is investigating after a customer claims they were told to "choke and die" on their food by a restaurant owner.

The abusive message appears to have been sent after the customer had asked the company for a refund claiming their takeaway order was two hours late and "grim".

Posting on Twitter, the customer, from Liverpool, uploaded the abusive audio message.

The accompanying Tweet read: "Processed a refund through @JustEatUK because the food was 2 hours late and grim and got this from the venue lmaoooo."

Alongside the tweet, a recording of an abusive voicemail the customer received was attached.

In the voicemail, a woman speaking in a Liverpool accent can be heard to say: "I hope you know your food won’t be free you scruffy little c***.

"I will be going through JustEat for my money back and I hope you f*****g choke and die on it."

It's not yet known which restaurant the customer had ordered from but after tagging JustEat in the message the company responded, saying they were "deeply concerned".

A spokesperson for JustEat told the ECHO : "At Just Eat, we want all of our customers to have a positive experience.

"While the restaurants on our platform are independent from the Just Eat business, we hold ourselves to high standards and we expect all our restaurant partners to act responsibly and respectfully at all times.

"We have been in touch with the customer and we are investigating this further."

Takeaway delivery services have seen an massive increase in business since the start of the pandemic and earlier this year, JustEat said it would be creating 1,500 jobs in Liverpool as the city becomes the third UK location for the food delivery giant's agency worker model for couriers.

This followed the launch of the company's new 'Scoober' model in the city, after its rollout in London in November last year and Birmingham in February.
