'Just when you think 2020 can't get any worse' - fans react to Leon Britton's shock Swansea City exit

Leon Britton's shock departure from Swansea City was announced on Saturday morning, just one week before Steve Cooper's men restart the 2019/20 Championship campaign.

The club legend has left his role as sporting director after less than a year in the position.

“I’m obviously disappointed to leave. But the time is right for me to take a break, spend some quality time with my family and enjoy the freedom and flexibility of a ‘normal’ life," he said.

Britton played in all four divisions for the Swans and was part of the side that played Europa League football following their Leaue Cup triumph under Michael Laudrup.

And his departure has inevitably hit the Jack Army hard.

They've been having their say on Britton's surprise exit on social media.

Here's the best reaction from supporters.

Robert Day: "All the best Leon. #YJB."

Jet City Jacks: "Diolch yn fawr Leon."

ForeverJack: "Gutted. Proper gutted. It was reassuring knowing we had him, a JB at the top of the club. ATB Leon."

Curtis Evans: "All the best Leon but I can’t believe I woke up to this."

Philip Gwynne Jones: "Trying to find the right words but I think "Aaaaaarrrggghhhhh!!!!" will have to do for now. Good luck Leon, and don't stay away too long."

James Williams: "All the best Britts. You’ll always be a Swans legend. One of the best."

Nicholas Rees: "More of a cost saving I think."

Matt: "Thank you Leon, legend. Enjoy your time with family and reflecting on a superb footballing career for the Swans in particular."

Cam Jenks: "Didn’t see this coming. All the best Leon. YJB."

Dave the IT: "Well that’s a downhill start to the day."

Sue: "Just when you think 2020 can't get any worse. Thanks for everything Leon."

Damien Carter: "Good luck Leon and hopefully you will be back someday. Enjoy the break. YJB."

Andrew Winfield: "Thanks Leon. Look forward to seeing you back."

Phil Cole: "Good luck, Britts. Hopefully see you soon once you have a well earned break. You've been a rock for this club and as fans we'll never forget."

SwanseaJack: "Disappointing news as Leon is loved at the club. All the best Leon."

Thomas Davies: "A real football man that will be massively missed."

Jason: "Bit of a strange one to wake up to this morning, could there be a shake up behind the scenes due to this pandemic?"

Joel Ish: "Quit to concentrate on coming back as a player. Get those boots dusted down mush."

Harveys journey: "Sad news to see but all the best Leon."
