Just two stadiums ahead of Anfield as Liverpool's home underlines special status

Anfield is one of the most historic football grounds in the world.

Liverpool’s home since their creation in 1892, it has played host to some of the greatest nights in football history.

Over the years a host of European heavyweights have been toppled at the famous stadium, with Liverpool’s dramatic comeback victory over Barcelona in last season’s Champions League the latest in a long list.

Thousands of football fans visit Anfield on a regular basis to watch Jurgen Klopp’s side in action, and as a result, the famous stadium is one of the most Instagrammed grounds in world football.

Overall there are 8,020,412 hashtags across the top 15 stadiums that feature on the list, with Barcelona’s Camp Nou the most popular across world football with 1,812,226 hashtags.

Second is the San Siro with 1,094,088 hashtags, while Anfield is third having amassed 1,011,702 tags on the social media site.

To determine which football stadium is the most ‘famous’ on Instagram, Ticketgum.com pulled 15 of the best-known stadiums in the world, and achieved the results by extracting the number of hashtags that featured the stadium names listed (#name), and then with the stadium after the name (#namestadium).

The newest stadium on the list, belonging to Tottenham Hotspur, has been tagged a mere 118,000 times - making it the second least popular stadium behind the London Stadium, home of West Ham United, which has only had 52,650 hashtags.
