Just two Ohio State players named in Draft Wire’s latest two-round NFL mock draft

With the Super Bowl in the rearview mirror, and with Ohio State having succumbed to Alabama in the national championship game, that more or less brings the American football season to an end. Yes, we know, there is counseling available for this sort of thing, but it’s now time to turn the page to the 2021 NFL draft.

With that in mind, we keep like to keep our gaze fixed on what the folks at Draft Wire are doing as we step through things towards the annual spectacle that has become the NFL draft. And now, with all teams having polished off the season, we even know the order of the picks, so this thing starts to get even more real.

And, since you’re here, we assume you are interested in where Ohio State players are falling in all of these mock drafts. The Buckeyes have fourteen total players eligible for the draft, so you would expect a parade of scarlet and gray. However, as you’ll see, there will either be a slew of OSU players taken in the middle to late rounds, or everyone has this thing wrong because there aren’t many draft experts picking Buckeye players to go in the early rounds.

Draft Wire is no different. In fact, it only has two Ohio State players going in the first two rounds, and we’re here to tell you who they are.

NEXT … The First Round Pick (you know who it is)

The buzz on Fields

Fields was long considered one of the two best quarterbacks available coming into the draft this year. However, with only eight games played this season because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and with a couple of suspect games, his draft stock has fallen a little.

Still, the potential and upside are huge. Fields has a big, accurate arm, and his ability to get plays alive with his legs is becoming more and more a part of today’s trend in the NFL. Right now, it seems obvious that Trevor Lawrence will go off the board first, and things are then leaning towards BYU’s Zach Wilson being the No. 2 quarterback now. If so, Fields could fall here, or lower. If not, he could go even earlier than this.

We’ll just have to wait and see. Either way, he likely won’t be around long.

The buzz on Davis

Davis has been seen all along as a potential first-round pick. He is one of the best offensive lineman available and he may not even last this long. Curiously though, a lot of mock drafts have Davis not even going in the first round. I don’t buy it.

A lineman with his blend of athleticism and power doesn’t just go on trees. Davis has shown that he’s equally adept at run blocking and pass protection, and some NFL scout or executive is going to fall in love. Of course, you never know how things shake out in the crazy world of the NFL draft, but we bet he goes even sooner than this.
