Just two new coronavirus cases confirmed in Bristol area

The daily rise in coronavirus cases recorded in Bristol today is the smallest the city has seen in months.

Government figures released this afternoon (Sunday, May 2) show that in last 24-hour period on record, just two people in Bristol city tested positive for the virus.

A chart on the government's website, which logs each daily rise since March 2020, suggests that this is the lowest since mid September - before the second wave of the virus hit.

Across the West of England region, which also covers South Gloucestershire, Bath and North East Somerset and North Somerset, eight new cases of COVID-19 were recorded today.

This is down from 13 cases recorded yesterday, and 23 cases the previous day.

Across the region, two more people have died within 28 days of testing positive for the virus - one person in Bristol, and one person in South Gloucestershire.
