'Just like Liverpool' - Former Reds star makes big West Ham claim

Former Liverpool star Phil Thompson has explained why West Ham United remind him of the Reds, after praising Manuel Pellegrini's side so far this season.

The Hammers have caught the eye at the beginning of the 2019/20 campaign, sitting eighth in the standings after wins against the likes of Manchester United.

The addition of Sebastian Haller has proven to be effective, crafting an exciting forward line alongside Felipe Anderson and Andriy Yarmolenko, with Manuel Lanzini providing support.

As Thompson has explained, that quartet reminds him of a previous incarnation of Jurgen Klopp's side at Anfield.

"They have always been a bit unpredictable. I really like the forward line if they can keep them fit. Sebastian Haller, Felipe Anderson and Andriy Yarmolenko are all threatening, and then you have to take into account Manuel Lanzini," he told Sporting Life.

"It takes you back to Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho - West Ham have Lanzini as their fourth, just like Liverpool did.

"It is an attacking and potent side. You also have Declan Rice and Mark Noble as the holding players which means it is quite an exciting side. Their results have been impressive."

West Ham face an out-of-sorts Everton outfit at Goodison Park this weekend, before clashes with Sheffield United, Newcastle United and Burnley.
