Just how miserable are Jets fans?

Since the Jets franchise was created in 1960, it’s been a lot of broken dreams and lost hope for their fan base.

ESPN ranked the most miserable fan bases across all four major sports leagues based on championships, playoff berths, playoff wins, heartbreaks and rival comparison. Taking all those into account, the Jets were ranked third in the NFL in ESPN’s most miserable fan index and sixth out of all the major sports teams.

Breaking it down categorically, the Jets ranked fourth in championships, fourth in playoff berths, 17th in playoff wins, 19th in heartbreaks and third in rival comparison.

It’s been a long and rough 59 years for Jets fans. The team hasn’t made the big game since Joe Namath guaranteed that they’d win Super Bowl III against the Baltimore Colts. More recently, the Jets haven’t made the playoffs in eight years, which is the third-longest streak in the NFL today.

Since the last AFC Championship appearance in 2011, the Jets have had 11 different starting quarterbacks, three different head coaches and four general managers. The Jets’ most hated rival, the New England Patriots, have had Tom Brady and Bill Belichick for two decades and have won six Super Bowls together.

This franchise has had a black cat running around them since 1969 and things don’t look to be getting much better. Jets fans have suffered plenty with this team, but there could be more in store for them in the near future.
