Just hours left to bid on £350,000 beach hut - which costs more than most houses

Time is running out if you're interested in bidding for a beach hut that recently went on sale for £350,000, as all bids have to be in by 10am tomorrow.

The wooden hut is located on Mudeford Spit at Hengistbury Head, in Dorset, and is set to be the most expensive of its kind if it is sold for the full amount.

The average UK house price is £261,221, according to the latest research from bank Halifax, so the hut is almost £100,000 more expensive.

If you think £350,000 sounds steep, you're right. But this is no ordinary beach hut.

Firstly, it can sleep six people - albeit four on mattresses on the floor, with two sleeping on the ground floor.

It is almost brand new, as it was only built in April. It also has electricity and running water, solar panels, a kitchenette, storage and a living room area.

But the main selling point of the hut is its location, in a very beautiful part of the world.

It is located on a sandbank that sticks out into the sea, and this remote location makes it extremely peaceful.

The hut is being sold by estate agents Denisons, which said it also has views out to the Isle of Wight and its famous Needles - three 30metre pillars of chalk off the coast of the island.

All interested bidders should contact Denisons by 10am on August 13, and the property will be sold via phone auction.

Beach hut prices are thought to be soaring because of the increased demand for UK holidays.

Huts at Mudeford Spit, Bournemouth have always been notably expensive, with the previous highest recorded sale price at £330,000.

But anyone thinking they can live in the hut all year round will be disappointed.

It has no bathroom, and the nearest one is located in a public toilet and shower block on the sandbank.

You are also only allowed to sleep in the huts from March 1 to October 31.

The huts also have restricted access to cars except in exceptional circumstances, and you are normally only able to get to them by walking, boat or land train - a sort of bus.

Plus, as the huts are all privately-owned, they are subject to residents' fees which an be thousands of pounds a year.

However, the huts can also be rented out for more than £1,000 a week during the summer, so buying the hut does mean you get to recoup some of the cash.

But if you miss out on buying the hut, don't despair.

Denisons is also selling five more similar huts , all on the same sandbank, and expected prices range from £275,000 to £325,000.
