Shane Warne's Brexit 'advice' slammed on social media after telling Britain to 'just get on with it'

Shane Warne has been criticised on social media after the Australian cricketing legend shared his views on Brexit.

Speaking ahead of the fourth Ashes Test, the sportsman-turned-commentator told BBC’s Radio 4’s Today Programme: “Boris is great, Britain is great, just get on with it.”

Twitter users were largely unimpressed by the 49-year-old’s intervention, with one writing: “Yep, what we’ve been missing through the whole 3 years of this Brexit debacle is Shane Warne’s opinion on it.”

Another wrote: “Shane Warne says on Brexit that we should 'just get on with it.' But what is ‘it’ that we are meant to be getting on with? Nobody can answer that, not even the great Shane Warne!”

“Shane Warne is on BBC R4 Today telling us how to deal with Brexit. What fresh hell is this,” commented another.

Others criticised radio host Nick Robinson for raising the topic during the interview.

“@BBCr4today Why let Shane Warne comment (unchallenged) on Brexit rather than on cricket? What next, Ant & Dec on the Hong Kong situation? Show some judgement, please,” tweeted one user.

“We have got to such a point where our media is asking Shane Warne about Brexit. Yes that’s the ex cricketer Shane Warne who lives around 10,000 miles away & u could write everything he knows about Brexit on a stamp,” added another.

"What the hell was the point of asking Shane Warne his views? You might as well have asked Zippy from Rainbow!!" wrote another.
