More than 150 e-bikes will be available to rent in Edinburgh next week, as part of the city's Just Eat bike hire scheme.
The new bikes will launch on March 2, using the same app and the same stations as the existing blue bikes.
E-bikes use an electric motor to help people pedal along, making is far easier to go uphill and move quicker.
They can cruise at around 15mph fairly easily and will let cyclists cover greater distances.
Students at Edinburgh University have been testing the blue e-bikes since November last year.
The rentable e-bikes will be unlockable for £1.50 — the same price as a single journey on the existing pedal bikes - but will come with an additional per minute charge of 10p.
A total of 168 bikes will be phased into the network in addition to the hundreds of existing Just Eat bicycles.
Made in Britain by Pashley, the e-bikes are similar to the existing pedal models but have a slightly different frame
The Just Eat bike hire scheme launched in 2018 and is operated by Serco.
Alex Macdonald, General Manager of Just Eat Cycles, said: "We’re proud to announce that we will launch our e-bikes on the 2nd of March — this is an exciting step.
"The thousands of people who live, work, study and visit this brilliant city can look forward to an easy to use, sustainable and affordable alternative mode of public transport.
"I am looking forward to seeing them being enjoyed around the city, alongside our fantastic pedal bikes."
George Lowder, Chief Executive of Transport for Edinburgh, said: "The e-bikes are great fun and make cycling around the city comparatively easy.
"The really innovative thing is the way in which they are completely integrated into the existing scheme."
