Just Eat confirms it is delivering Greggs as stores reopen

The high-streets favourite bakers is back next week with a new partnership in place with online food delivery service Just Eat.

A 'controlled trial' - starting Monday May 4 - will see of the gradual reopening of their stores starting in the Newcastle area, having previously shut down as a result of the imposed lockdown measures.

By June 8, the intention is then for the trial period to extend to over 700 of their stores across the UK.

According to the company's chief executive, the the long-term hope will then be to fully resume their normal operation by July 1 when the government's job retention scheme comes to an end.

Throughout the gradual phased approach of getting back up and running, the bakery chain have also announced a new partnership with Just Eat that will see customers capable of having their favourite snacks delivered to their home.

In a tongue-in-cheek 'love letter' directed towards the famous Greggs Steak Bake published on JustEat's Facebook page, they wrote: "Since lockdown began, we haven't been able to get you off our mind."

"Straight out of the oven you're too hot to handle, but this doesn't keep us from devouring you in minutes. We'll never take your golden pastry for granted again (even those flakes at the bottom of the bag).a

"These days we miss you around the clock. Be it morning, lunchtime, or mid-afternoon, we long for your tender steak chunks."

"We can't wait to see you back on Just Eat soon. Until then, we want you to know you're a total snack."
