TWO delivery operators say they have issued advice to their staff after some rider were attacked as a mob descended on Glasgow's city centre.

Just Eat and Deliveroo have confirmed that they are aware of the events which started at around 7pm on the steps at the top of Buchanan Street.

Members of the demonstration then travelled down towards St Enoch Square, where further disorder continued.

It is understood that some delivery riders who were parked in the area became caught up in the unrest and allegedly abused.

Police Scotland has since confirmed that amid the violence "members of the public were attacked because of the colour of their skin."

Deliveroo has condemned the attacks against their riders and have confirmed they are in further communication with those who work for the brand.

A spokesperson: “We have reached out to the local authorities and will continue to monitor the situation extremely closely today. We condemn attacks against riders and will be communicating advice with them directly as the situation evolves, to ensure their safety is a priority.”

Just Eat also say they are aware of the incident involving some of their riders and are working with Police Scotland and Glasgow City Council.

A Just Eat spokesperson said: “We closely monitor any incident which may impact our couriers, working with relevant authorities and brand partners.

"There is nothing more important than driver safety and we will always suspend service when needed.

"We also regularly communicate with the couriers who deliver for Just Eat to ensure they have the latest safety guidance.”

The crowd which charged through the city centre has been branded a “savage mob” by MSP Paul Sweeney, after members of the public and police were assaulted.

Following the gathering at the Concert Hall steps on Tuesday evening, video footage shows gangs of men dressed in black, some with face coverings, attacking non-white men while shouting racist abuse in St Enoch Square.

A large police presence was mobilised and streets across the city centre closed off as officers attempted to restore order.

Police Scotland say they are braced to deal with further disorder in Glasgow.
