Just days left for property tax submission with all homeowners warned

Homeowners paying property tax have been warned that they must select the payment option they will opt for by Sunday, November 7.

The tax itself is not due for payment on Sunday. However, you will have to submit your Local Property Tax (LPT) return and choose your payment method of choice.

Payment options

The payment can be made using a debit or credit card or by using a service provider.

An annual debit instruction can also be used to make the payment. This involves a direct debit payment taken from your bank account on March 21 once a year.

Others will opt to spread the payment out. If you choose this option, payments will begin in January 2022. They can be made monthly through direct debit, weekly or monthly payments through a service provider, or a deduction can be taken from your salary wages or occupational pension.

If you prefer to deal in cash, payment can be made at your local post office. To do this, you need to bring your Revenue letter with the property ID or quite your Personal Public Service Number (PPSN).

The PPSN used must be belonging to the person liable for the LPT payment.

You can pay by cheque as long as you submit your LPT return by paper.

Transaction charges

Payment services such as Omnivend and Payzone can now also be used to pay your LPT.

However, An Post, Omnivend and Payzone will charge a transaction fee.

An Post charges a fee of €1 per transaction, so be sure to keep your receipt as proof of payment.

Revenue has advised that property owners do not require an LPT letter for the purposes of filing an LPT return.

If you have not received a hard-copy letter about the LPT in the post, check your myAccount My Documents folder as a copy may be issued online.

Owners can also register for the LPT online if they are not registered already.

Click on the "Register New Property" link on the Property Services Card in myAccount or in the "Other Services" section on the ROS home page.

Helpline

Revenue has also extended the opening hours of its property tax helpline 01 738 3626.

It will be open from 8am to 8pm on Wednesday and Thursday.
