Just 1 new coronavirus case confirmed in Nottingham, latest Public Health England data shows

Just one new case of coronavirus has been confirmed in the city of Nottingham, new data shows.

Furthermore, as of 4pm on Monday, June 8, there were no new confirmed cases across wider Nottinghamshire in the 24 hours before.

The total number of cases in Nottingham now stands at 615, up by one, while there are 1,446 cases in the county.

Overall, there have now been 2,061 cases in both the city and county since records began early March.

Data is released every day by the Government, and the low number of cases come as the country reported just 55 deaths on Monday, June 8, the lowest figure since March 23.

Infection rates have therefore plateaued, with Nottingham's now standing at 185.8 and the county's at 175.7.

The East Midlands' 'R' rate is now 0.9, but if the reproduction number is higher than one, then the number of cases increases exponentially.

If the number is lower, the disease will eventually peter out, as not enough new people are being infected to sustain the outbreak.

The current number of cases for each borough and district are shown below.

Gedling - 222

Rushcliffe - 198

Mansfield - 133

Newark and Sherwood - 167

Ashfield - 244

Broxtowe - 238

Bassetlaw - 244

The number of cases, despite the decline in recent weeks, only covers those tested for the virus by a lab.

In the UK, there have now been 40, 597 deaths after days of decline.
