Jussie Smollett's lawyer didn't rule out the actor filing a lawsuit after all charges against him in his high-profile attack case were dropped.
Tina Glandian said Smollet and his legal team are currently "weighing our options" after the Cook County State's Attorney's Office dropped the charges on Tuesday.
"For Jussie, what's really important is he really just wants his career and his life back," Glandian said on "Good Morning America" on Wednesday. "Again, he did not ask for any of this, he was a victim of a crime."
Smollett was arrested in February for allegedly filing a false police report. Chicago Police Department Superintendent Eddie Johnson has asserted that Smollett, an actor on the Fox series "Empire," orchestrated an attack on himself because he was unhappy with his salary.
A grand jury then indicted Smollett on 16 counts of disorderly conduct last month.
Smollett, 36, has maintained his innocence. He told police in January that he was attacked by two people who used homophobic and racial slurs and placed a rope around his neck. Smollett is black and openly gay.
After his charges were dropped, Johnson and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel denounced the decision made by the State's Attorney's Office.
Glandian said on the ABC morning show Wednesday, "We're shocked at the mayor and the police superintendent doubling down yesterday when the prosecutor, after a dispassionate look at the evidence, realized that this did not hold up and chose to voluntarily dismiss all counts and expunge his record."
The State's Attorney's Office, meanwhile, has insisted that dropping Smollett's charges does not "exonerate" him of what's he accused of.
