Jury selection underway in trial of man accused of £750,000 fraud

The trial of a man accused of defrauding a woman out of more than £750,000 is under way.

The process to select a jury to try Mark Acklom, 45, began at Bristol Crown Court before Judge Martin Picton on Monday.

A panel of 25 potential jurors was whittled down to 14 and on Tuesday the 12 jurors who will hear the case will be sworn in.

Acklom has pleaded not guilty to a total of 20 charges - eight counts of fraud by false representation, eight counts of converting criminal property and four counts of removing criminal property from the UK.

Acklom, of no fixed address, is accused of defrauding Carolyn Woods between January and July 2012.

Judge Picton warned the panel that the trial was likely to last up to four weeks but a specific start date has not yet been confirmed.
