Man acquitted of burning his wife to death

A jury has found Kulwinder Singh not guilty of the murder of his wife Parwinder Kaur. (AAP)

A Sydney rail worker who said his wife set herself on fire has been found not guilty of murder at his second trial.

The NSW Supreme Court jury took only hours on Tuesday to find to find Kulwinder Singh not guilty of murdering Parwinder Kaur on December 2, 2013, at their Rouse Hill home.

The now 43-year-old faced a retrial after another jury was discharged in October 2019 after failing to reach a verdict.

The Crown alleged he poured petrol over his 32-year-old wife and set her alight after arguing about finances including his requests for her to contribute to the mortgage.

But the defence contended Ms Kaur set herself on fire to create a "drama", confident the blaze would be put out.

Ten of Ms Kaur's fingerprints were found on the petrol tin used and only her fingerprint and DNA were found on the lighter.
