Jury convicts man who attacked Paul Pelosi - Roll Call

A federal jury in California found David DePape, the man who bludgeoned Paul Pelosi with a hammer last year, guilty of attempted kidnapping of a federal officer and assault on the immediate family member of a federal official.

DePape, who bought into far-right conspiracy theories, was looking to kidnap then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., when he broke into the Pelosis’ San Francisco home in October 2022 and found Paul Pelosi home alone. The attack ended with Pelosi on the floor in a pool of his blood with a skull fracture and other injuries.

The former speaker, in a statement Thursday from her spokesperson, Aaron Bennett, said her family is proud of the way her husband reacted the night of the attack and when he testified in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California as a witness earlier in the week.

“Speaker Pelosi and her family are deeply grateful for the outpouring of prayers and warm wishes for Mr. Pelosi from so many across the country during this difficult time,” Bennett said. “The Pelosi family is very proud of their Pop, who demonstrated extraordinary composure and courage on the night of the attack a year ago and in the courtroom this week. Thankfully, Mr. Pelosi continues to make progress in his recovery.”
