Jurrell Casey will help Broncos’ defense create chaos this season

Broncos outside linebacker Von Miller played with defensive end Derek Wolfe for eight years from 2012-2019. During that time, Miller and Wolfe developed chemistry and they could communicate with their eyes at the line of scrimmage.

Wolfe left Denver this offseason, signing with the Ravens during free agency. The Broncos replaced Wolfe by trading for former Titans defensive lineman Jurrell Casey.

Casey has played with Miller at past Pro Bowls and he has quickly developed some chemistry of his own with his new teammate.

“He just gets it,” Miller said of Casey on Aug. 4. “It’s just instant. When you’ve played as long as Jurrell and you’re played as long as me, it’s just instant. We don’t have to work on stuff. I can say something and he’ll pick it up instantly. He’ll say something to me, and I’ll pick it up instantly. It’s great to have a guy like that.”

Casey is expected to serve as one of Denver’s interior defensive linemen this season with Miller and Bradley Chubb serving as edge rushers on the outside. Chubb believes a pass rush that features himself, Miller and Casey will cause a lot of trouble for opposing teams.

“Chaos, man,” Chubb said on July 31. “I’m excited for it. It’s going to be fun. Just to see the things he did for however long he’s been in the league — five straight Pro Bowls.

“One of the best tackles and pass-rushing tackles and run-playing tackles in the league. It’s going to be fun to mix that with me coming back even hungrier, Von coming back even hungrier and a defense that feels like it has something to prove. It’s going to be chaos for others.”

Chubb missed most of last season while recovering from an ACL injury. In 2018, Chubb’s last full season, Miller, Casey and Chubb totaled a combined 159 tackles and 33.5 sacks. The Broncos would probably love to get similar production from those three players in 2020.
