Jurnee Smollett Joins Apple TV+ Series 'Firebug' With Taron Egerton

Los Angeles premiere of Apple TV+ Original Series ''Platonic'' at Regal LA Live

Jurnee Smollett has been announced as the latest addition to the cast of Apple TV+'s upcoming series, 'Firebug.' She will be starring alongside Taron Egerton in this new project. Smollett is set to portray the character of Michelle, a talented detective on the rise. The show, loosely based on true events and inspired by a podcast of the same name, will see Egerton in the role of an enigmatic arson investigator.

The narrative of 'Firebug' revolves around the pursuit of two serial arsonists by the lead characters. Additionally, Egerton is not only starring in the series but also serving as an executive producer. The show is being developed by creator Dennis Lehane, who is also an executive producer on the project. This collaboration marks a reunion of the team behind Apple TV+'s 'Black Bird.'

Other executive producers involved in the production of 'Firebug' include Richard Plepler, Dan Friedkin, Bradley Thomas, and Kary Antholis. The series is set in the contemporary Pacific Northwest and is a work of fiction, drawing inspiration from the events covered in the 'Firebug' podcast hosted by Antholis.

Jurnee Smollett, known for her role in 'Lovecraft Country,' has an impressive resume that includes appearances in various TV shows and films. Her recent projects include the legal drama 'The Burial' and the indie drama 'We Grown Now.' She is also set to appear in the upcoming film 'The Order.'

'Firebug' is the latest offering from Apple Studios and Imperative Entertainment, following their successful collaborations on projects like 'Black Bird' and Martin Scorsese's 'Killers of the Flower Moon.' The series promises to deliver a gripping narrative set against the backdrop of arson investigations in the Pacific Northwest.

Smollett is represented by Entertainment 360, CAA, and Nina Shaw. Her involvement in 'Firebug' adds to the anticipation surrounding the series, which is poised to be a compelling addition to Apple TV+'s lineup of original content.
