Jurgen Klopp would love Rafa Benitez's clever Liverpool signing

How Jurgen Klopp would so love a player like Dirk Kuyt at Liverpool right now.

And not just for the fact he would be an extremely high quality back up to the world-class triumvirate that currently lead the Reds' line.

The level of work-rate, selflessness and adaptability he possessed that helped bring the best out of his more talented colleagues would make him an ideal fit in the current set-up.

His penchant for a big moment and personality too would no doubt make him one of the German manager's favourites and they are all qualities a certain Rafa Benitez must have seen when bringing the Dutchman to Anfield from Feyenoord on this day in 2006.

Kuyt signed for £9million, with then chairman David Moores having to lend the club the money for the transfer.

The adoring Kop immediately took him into their hearts because of how much much he cared, how hard he tried and how he sacrificed himself for the cause, switching out to the right upon the arrival of Fernando Torres and helping Luis Suarez to bed in to life at Anfield before departing in 2012.

Scoring 71 goals from 286 appearances for the Reds, there were several strikes that will go down in history from both European Cup and League Cup finals, as well as vital goals in Champions League ties, Merseyside derbies and games against Manchester United.

He was a popular figure in the dressing room throughout his time on Merseyside and became known as Liverpool's man for the big occasion.

The League Cup in 2012 was the only silverware Kuyt lifted during his seven seasons at Anfield, but he remains one of the most likable players of the modern era in the eyes of Reds fans too.

And with his talent, versatility, hard-working style and reliability, there is little doubt a prime Kuyt would be valued among Klopp’s champions today as someone who'd provide on the pitch, add to the winning mentality and push those around him to work even harder for more success.
