Jurgen Klopp welcomes £160m Premier League change that would involve Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has welcomed suggestions of a 10% transfer levy for Premier League clubs to help those lower down the league pyramid.

A fan-led review of English football by the Government has recommended the change to redistribute money from the upper echelons to the lower leagues and the grassroots game.

The 162-page review claimed £160million could be raised by what would in effect be a 'stamp duty', while also calling for an independent regulator to be set up to deal with football finances, club ownership and corporate governance.

And Klopp is in agreement some sort of change should be introduced to assist clubs further down the league ladder.

"In general I like this kind of thing," said the Reds boss on Friday.

"The review I heard this morning really properly about it, I heard it is about 170 pages so I had no time to go through that yet.

"But in general I understand the issue and the desire to change something.

"There's a lot we could change to improve lower league or even non-league football especially.

"In the professional part English football is in a really good place, incredible amount of talents coming out of the academies. You see it here and other clubs as well, the players get much better much earlier than in comparison to the past.

"You had always an 18-year-old who was a stand-out talent but now you have more of these kind. There is a lot of good work done.

"For grass roots or non-league football there is for sure a lot to do, or even for League 1 and League 2. I know not too much on the subject but I can imagine there is a lot of help needed as well."
