Jurgen Klopp warns Liverpool FC not to fall into Man City double-header trap

Manchester City may have avoided a triple-header with Liverpool after the Champions League draw, but the FA Cup semi-final has paired them together to set up two meetings in a week next month.

City host Liverpool in a crucial Premier League showdown on April 10 at the Etihad in between two tough Champions League games against Atletico Madrid. After the second Atletico leg, then they go to Wembley to face Liverpool in the FA Cup semi-finals on the weekend of April 16 and 17.

That sets up a tantalising double-header in the space of a week, but Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has warned his side not to think about City until those games come around. With a quadruple still on offer for Liverpool, Klopp pointed to their important run of fixtures in the three remaining competitions and insisted it would be a mistake for them to fixate on the City games.

“We have Watford, Benfica, City, Benfica, City, United, Everton,” said Klopp after their FA Cup win at Nottingham Forest. From a Liverpool perspective these are all massive games and we try to play them one at a time and not all together.

"We knew before the [Forest] game City would be the opponent if we wanted to go to the final anyway. Now here we go. The further you go in whichever competition, the more likely you are you will face City at one point.

“I don’t think we are the dream draw for anyone, but it will be a tough tie and we have to make sure it will be tough for City as well. But there are a lot of games to play before that.”
