Jurgen Klopp wants to reward Liverpool fans for Champions League 'journey'

Jurgen Klopp is out to ensure another ‘unbelievable’ European adventure continues when Liverpool take on FC Porto tomorrow.

Thanks to their efforts at Anfield a week ago, the Reds hold a 2-0 lead going into Wednesday evening’s Champions League quarter-final second leg at Estadio do Dragao.

Klopp & Co. have bigger motivation than ever to go all the way in this season’s competition having suffered defeat to Real Madrid in the final last time around.

And, more than anything, the German hopes to reward the supporters who have followed him and his team across the continent since his arrival.

He said: “I thought about that when I was walking from the plane to the bus. It's unbelievable that we're here again altogether.

“The journey we have made together in the last couple of years has been amazing. One of the best songs is 'We've Conquered All of Europe'.

“We haven't conquered it really but at least we've been there. Brilliant.”

Liverpool’s aggregate advantage makes them strong favourites to make the semi-finals for the second consecutive season.

But Klopp knows Porto will fancy their chances of progressing, too, after earning a shock win over AS Roma in the last round.

He added: “What we've created in my three-and-a-half years here is that I always tell the boys the truth when I analyse. I don't make things bigger or smaller than they are.

“When we play Man City, I don't say they have no clue about football or say it's the best team in the world. We analyse for us.

“There's no risk that I need to convince the boys that Porto are really good. They know it already.

“We were sitting there for 45 minutes in the meeting this morning talking about this team. Part of it was about how they played in the second leg here against Roma.

“We played Roma and they can be an uncomfortable opponent but I didn't really see a chance for them that night as Porto were in control of that game. We should be prepared.”
