Jurgen Klopp urges Premier League rethink as Jordan Henderson sends Liverpool warning

Jurgen Klopp calls for Premier League change after 'dangerous situations' during Liverpool win

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp expressed his discomfort at the new Premier League guidance which encourages referees to allow games to flow, suggesting that it could lead to more unnecessary injuries.

After a record number of penalties were awarded in the English top-flight last season, Premier League referees will aim to avoid giving as many soft spot-kicks this campaign and are determined to encourage games to be less stop-start by flagging for less fouls.

Klopp is of the view that further talks are needed around the new way of refereeing games and believes more player protection is required.

Speaking after Saturday's win at Anfield, he said: "The intensity of the game was incredible, especially the centre-halves, the refs give you nothing, the strikers are constantly in your body, you jump, you get down, it was a proper test today.

'I'm telling you now' - Jordan Henderson fires Liverpool warning to Premier League rivals after Burnley win

But with grounds now back to full capacity, Henderson has no doubt in his mind that this could prove pivotal to Liverpool hopes of a title challenge.

"Without a crowd it’s a totally different game, football was totally different last season with no crowd – not only at Anfield but in general. Now we’ve got the fans back it’s a different ball game," he said.
