Jurgen Klopp urged to offload nine players as Liverpool squad gets set for fine tuning

Liverpool have their most settled squad in years and only minor tweaks are expected in this summer's transfer window.

It would appear the Reds' relative harmony is reflected by the club's fanbase too as they get set to enter into post-season transfer talks after the Champions League final.

On Tuesday, the ECHO asked Reds supporters which members of the current squad they would like to keep and what players they wanted to offload.

Liverpool fans voted in their thousands to have their say on what Jurgen Klopp should do with the players at his disposal when he settles down to begin building for next season.

Unsurprisingly, given a Premier League campaign that yielded 97 points, there are very few of the current crop who supporters are desperate to see the back of.

Such a bond between players and fans has only been strengthening by the prospect of finishing the season as European champions, given the Champions League final clash with Tottenham in Madrid on June 1.

However, while Reds followers typically wanted to retain players such as Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino - to name just three - it wasn't universal approval for the entire group.

A number of fringe players were asked to depart while just 13 per cent of voters wanted to see Daniel Sturridge given a contract extension.

Alberto Moreno is another who is expected to depart at the end of his deal this summer and only five per cent opted to keep the Spanish left-back on beyond the current term.

A quarter of voters wanted Simon Mignolet to stay on as back-up to Alisson, while in the Liverpool first team next term.

A total of 36 per cent want Marko Grujic to be kept at Anfield, while less than 18 chose to retain Nathaniel Clyne as a Liverpool player.

Interestingly, it was centre-back Dejan Lovren who divided the most opinion. The Croatian endured an injury-hit campaign that limited him to just 18 appearances all season.

The good form of both Joe Gomez and Joel Matip also contributed to Lovren's lack of minutes on the pitch and only 55 per cent votes were picked to keep him at the club.

In total, there were nine Liverpool players who received under 50 per cent.

The fact that so many of the squad gained over 90 per cent is testament to the high quality of the squad of players Klopp has assembled at Anfield.
