Former Liverpool star John Aldridge has opened up on the situation regarding Georginio Wijnaldum and his future.
The midfielder has been linked with a departure from Anfield during the summer transfer window and now Aldridge has shared his thoughts on the matter.
The Dutch star is in the final year of his contract at Liverpool and has not agreed new terms as yet, something which is backing the Reds into a corner somewhat.
Aldridge has now insisted that Liverpool must make a firm decision either way on Wijnaldum's future sooner rather than later amid links with Barcelona.
“You very rarely see him giving the ball away, but he did that a few times in the first half against Arsenal [in the Community Shield] and that may be because his future is up in the air," Aldridge told Sunday World, per Goal.com.
“There has been a lot of talk that Thiago Alcantara will replace Wijnaldum in the Liverpool squad and there are rumours that he has been tapped up by Barcelona’s new manager Ronald Koeman.
“[Klopp] will want that situation resolved quickly because players who are uncertain over their future can be affected in matches and Liverpool can’t afford to allow that issue to become a big problem ahead of the transfer deadline on October 5th.”
Asked about his future recently, Wijnaldum replied: "It’s a rumour, I have nothing to say about it."
