Jurgen Klopp tipped to leave Liverpool before end of contract amid 'burnout' fears

Former Liverpool star Jason McAteer believes Jurgen Klopp could leave the club before his contract expires.

Klopp is contracted at Anfield until 2024 after extending his deal back in December.

He has the club on course for their first Premier League title with Liverpool yet to taste defeat so far this term.

But McAteer believes the effort Klopp puts into managing Liverpool will eventually take its toll on the German.

"He has a team around him, Melwood is locked down, you can't get into it. It's the hub," McAteer said.

"It wouldn't surprise me [if he walked away], it wouldn't surprise me at all. I just think there's burnout."

Former Anfield midfielder McAteer also lifted the lid on the pressures Klopp is under on a daily basis.

"He can't move. He can't go out the hotel, he's meeting potential partners, he's going to dinners, they're putting things on, it's constant," he continued.

"The partnership side of the club, when they come in and they want something, they want to get their name out there, who do they put on the front?"

Liverpool are back in action in the FA Cup against Shrewsbury on Sunday with Klopp expected to rotate his squad.

The likes of Joel Matip, Adam Lallana and Divock Origi are all expected to come in for the Reds.

And Curtis Jones, who was the hero in the previous round against Everton, is likely to retain his place for the fourth round trip.
