Jurgen Klopp takes Fabinho swipe at Brazil coach Tite and hints at Liverpool star's injury lay-off

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp aimed a dig at Brazil national team coach Tite over Fabinho in the wake of the Reds' costly Champions League victory over FC Midtjylland.

Second-half goals from Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah maintained Liverpool's 100 per cent start to Group D but a hamstring injury picked up by stand-in centre half Fabinho added to Liverpool's defensive injury crisis.

With Virgil van Dijk out with a long-term knee injury and Joel Matip currently also unavailable, it leaves Joe Gomez as Liverpool's only fit senior centre half with an intense schedule of Premier League and Champions League fixtures looming before the January transfer window opens.

Liverpool will now wait anxiously on Fabinho's scan results to determine the scale of the damage to his hamstring.

Klopp was asked after the game by a Brazilian journalist for an update and said it's a blow for the national team too.

Klopp replied: "I'm not sure if Tite's too worried because he plays him never so he will probably now not sit on the bench for the next three international games.

"For us it's obviously a proper blow but for now we don't know.

"Fab was not positive but not too negative as well so we will see, we have to wait for the scan tomorrow morning and then we will know more."

Fabinho was named in the Brazil squad for last month's World Cup qualifiers against Bolivia and Peru but did not feature and has only 12 senior caps for the Selecao.
