Jurgen Klopp singles out Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain after Liverpool's victory over Southampton

Jurgen Klopp has hailed Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for his "outstandingly good" performance against Southampton.

Liverpool won 2-1 at St Mary's Stadium with Sadio Mane scoring a sensational curling effort and Roberto Firmino adding another in the second-half.

Oxlade-Chamberlain made his first Premier League appearance for the Reds since April 2018 and the Anfield faithful have been desperate to see him return to action.

The England international was excellent down on the South Coast as he thrived in the midfield linking the play between defence and attack.

Klopp was asked about the midfielder's performance in his post-match press conference.

The manager said: “Brilliant. It was different, he was outstandingly good.

"The 45 minutes on Wednesday we can now say they helped for sure.

"He felt the intensity and knew he was ready for it.

"We had to make changes and it was important in the centre of the park especially that we were really there, ready for all these long runs and decisive things.

“It was good to have these opportunities, and Ox was obviously not bad today.”
