Jurgen Klopp shuts down questions about Manchester United new manager search

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has refused to drawn on the situation at Manchester United, issuing a curt response when asked for his thoughts during Tuesday's press conference.

Michael Carrick will be in the United dugout for the first time in his career when United take on Villarreal in the Champions League on Tuesday, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer relieved of his duties on Sunday.

Mauricio Pochettino is interested in the vacant role and could be in line to be the next permanent boss with the Reds confident of snapping up the current Paris Saint-Germain head coach, the Manchester Evening News understands .

PSG are demanding £10m in compensation to pry Pochettino away from Parc des Princes, with the former Tottenham manager willing to make the switch mid-season.

Liverpool, who have qualification for the Champions League knockout stage already secured, are preparing to face Porto at Anfield and Jurgen Klopp was only interested in the exploits of his team.

He said: "I'm not prepared for that question, I didn't think about Manchester United for a second ... Sorry, it's a long question but I don't have an answer for that."

Klopp's side inflicted substantial damage during the previous tenure as they romped to a 5-0 win at Old Trafford leading to significant scrutiny on the former attacker.

In light of the demolition, United considered sacking Solskjaer in October but the 48-year-old lasted five games before the demoralising defeat at Watford spelt the end to almost three years in charge.
