Jurgen Klopp shoots down suggestion of helping Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United

Jurgen Klopp has laughed off the suggestion he could offer to help Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United.

The Norwegian manager has come under fire in recent weeks after a torrid run of form which has seen United win just two of their last nine matches in all competitions.

United suffered another defeat on Wednesday night as they lost 2-0 against Man City at Old Trafford, a result which further hampered their hopes of Champions League qualification.

Despite a fantastic start to his tenure in charge of the club Solskjaer now faces a huge challenge if he is to secure a top-four finish in the league.

And speaking at a press conference on Thursday afternoon Liverpool manager Klopp dismissed the suggestion he could offer advice to Solskjaer, despite having his own experience of being appointed manager mid-season.

"They never helped me, why should I help him?" Klopp joked.

"It takes time. If we hadn’t had such an interesting ride in the Europa League [2016] I don’t think there would have been too many positives.

"I think the financial power of United is enough to sort the problems."

United were unable to do Liverpool a favour as they slumped to derby defeat on Wednesday night, and Klopp also claimed that he had not even considered the possibility of City losing the match.

The German added:“It was really the result I expected. United tried whatever they can, in the first half especially, but in the 95 minutes it was clear they can’t stand City in the moment.

“They were unlucky in moments but then they couldn’t stand City, so it was clear nothing really strange would happen in that City would win that game, so I was not surprised or whatever, not nervous when I watched it."
