Jurgen Klopp sent off as fiery Liverpool vs Man City clash boils over

Jurgen Klopp was sent off by referee Antony Taylor as emotions boiled over in the fiery clash between Liverpool and Manchester City.

With minutes remaining at Anfield, the Reds manager aimed a barrage of abuse at the nearside linesman after no foul was awarded Mohamed Salah after a challenge from Bernardo Silva. Taylor responded by giving Klopp his marching orders and the German stormed down the tunnel with minutes remaining.

The dismissal came after a classic Premier League encounter which featured numerous sweeping attacking moves, a disallowed goal and a sublime strike from Salah. Phil Foden saw what he thought was the opener chalked off for a foul by Erling Haaland in the build-up before Salah struck in the 76th minute.

The Egyptian plucked Alisson's hoof out of the air, turned Joao Cancelo with aplomb and burst through on goal, finishing with a clipped finish past Ederson to end the home fans into frenzy. Tempers flared after the incident involving Salah and Silva, which Gary Neville claimed should have been blown as a foul.

"Look it was a foul on Mo Salah, absolutely no doubt," the Manchester United legend said while commentating for Sky Sports. "Oh, Bernardo Silva and Salah are having a bit of a to-do. It all comes from that challenge on the corner from Silva on Salah, he just grabs him - how is that not a foul? The assistant referee is in front of it. Jurgen Klopp charges down the touchline, there you go, that's the red card."

While Salah scored the winner to defeat the defending champions, Neville opted to hand the man of the match award to Joe Gomez, who helped the Reds keep a clean sheet.

"That's my man of the match, Joe Gomez," Neville said. "It could've went to James Milner but it's going to him. He's been outstanding at right centre-back. I'm sure City were looking to target before the game but he's covered behind Milner, he's made some brilliant interceptions himself."
