Jurgen Klopp sends Takumi Minamino message to Liverpool fans after win in Qatar

Jurgen Klopp has told Liverpool supporters they must wait for news on Takumi Minamino – while joking he wishes he could have called on the Japanese forward in Qatar.

Minamino underwent a medical on Wednesday after the Reds agreed to trigger the player's £7.25million release clause at Red Bull Salzburg.

If no issues are discovered, the 24-year-old will complete a move to Anfield when the transfer window opens on January 1.

Minamino could be joining the new world champions after the Reds went through to Saturday's FIFA Club World Cup final against Flamengo with a dramatic 2-1 triumph over Monterrey of Mexico.

And in his media conference after the match in Doha, Klopp was asked about his reasoning for pursuing the Japan international.

“I cannot speak about it... it's too early!” laughed Klopp.

“If he would come – it would have been really good today to be honest if we could bring him on!

“But he is not our player, so we have to wait for that. Sorry.”
