Jurgen Klopp sends pointed message to Chelsea after Liverpool give up ground in title race

Jurgen Klopp believes Chelsea are still able to field a first choice line-up despite the Blues pushing for their Sunday clash at Wolves to be postponed.

Both Liverpool and the west Londoners dropped points at the weekend.

Chelsea headed north on Sunday but made moves to call off their game at Molineux, citing rising Covid cases.

The Premier League rejected their proposal however and a team including Hakim Ziyech, Mason Mount and Christian Pulisic couldn't break down Wolves.

Liverpool meanwhile drew 2-2 with Tottenham, which allowed Manchester City to further extend their lead after they saw off Newcastle United.

Klopp was without Virgil van Dijk, Fabinho and Thiago for the game in north London.

All three tested positive for Covid and the German felt some of their rivals were not being hit as hard.

He said: "As we always were, we were in contact with the Premier League, we tell them about our cases and the stuff that happens. In the first instance we had three cases and then two days later Thiago was positive,

"The Premier League tells us these are pretty much the best numbers in the league.

"I saw Arsenal and Chelsea play and they have, for me, their first line-ups, pretty much, on the pitch, but for us it’s not exactly the same."

Klopp's comments may surprise some of those at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are currently without the likes of Callum Hudson-Odoi, Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner - all of whom tested positive for Covid.

That trio have often started for the Blues, meaning their options have been hit.

Tuchel has called on the authorities to bring the fixture calendar to a halt in an effort to stop the spread of Covid.

Chelsea are due to play Brentford in the Carabao Cup this week but Tuchel has cast doubt over their involvement.

“It will hopefully stop but it’s more or less hoping. There is nothing else to do," he said.

“If we have the next test and the next positive I would like to speak to the people from the Premier League what they expect.

“The Premier League had an opinion and we had a different opinion so we agree to disagree.”

“When they make us play against Brentford shall we not arrive? Shall we not train anymore? What shall we do?

"I don't care so much about the next games I just care about the next tests and the health of the players."
