Jurgen Klopp sends Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold a warning

Trent Alexander-Arnold has been warned his place as England's No.1 right-back is not secure.

The Kop defender appears to be Gareth Southgate's first-choice in the position after Kyle Walker was axed from the squad for the upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers.

Alexander-Arnold's standing in the game continues to grow after being one of the key men in Liverpool's Champions League-winning squad last season.

But while his manager Jurgen Klopp believes he can handle the pressure of being England's best, he also warned him it might not be a position for life if he does not keep improving.

“He had [difficult] moments already, it is not that his career went just like this [straight up],” said Klopp.

“He had moments and will have [more]. He is a very young lad.

“I have no clue why Gareth made the decision but I don’t think Kyle is that old to not having a chance anymore.

“It is a sign that England have a couple of really good opportunities with young players in Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Trent.

“Last year Kieran Trippier played there in the World Cup and was providing wonderful crosses, so there are obviously a couple of options.

“That creates a situation for a manager where you have to make a decision.

“But that doesn’t mean that from now on Trent is the No1 full back for the next 20-years. He has the skills to do so, but there are a lot of things you have to make sure.

“I am happy for him if he now has that position and is a bit closer to the first line-up.

“He is a really mature boy.

“From this point of view he is not 20 he is 25-26. But thank God he is 20! He a really mature - much more than I was when I was 20!”

Klopp’s side head to Burnley today looking to maintain their 100 per cent start to the Premier League campaign.

They could also win their 13th straight game in the league if they come out on top at Turf Moor.

“When we started the season, it was not the target to make it ten wins. I didn’t even know we had won nine,” said Klopp.

“Of course momentum for this season. It’s very important, have it, keep it and treat it well. And if you don’t have it, try to get it back as soon as possible. That is 100 per cent true.

“What is so important that you are 100% in the job you want to do and that has been really good so far.

“That is what we have to keep – that 100% focus and concentration on the opponent.

“What do we have to do differently from last week? The momentum we don’t really talk about. We don’t do it.”
