Jurgen Klopp 'seeks comprehensive file' from Egypt before Mohamed Salah decision

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will reportedly seek a 'comprehensive file' on Egypt's training programme for the 2020 Olympics before he decides whether or not to allow Mohamed Salah to link up with his country in Japan.

Egypt under-23 coach Shawky Gharib has again stated his desire for the country's most recognisable player to be one of the three overage members of his nation's squad in the summer, but Salah has not yet committed to a decision.

The Olympics football tournament takes place in six cities around Japan between July 22 and August 8, although concerns have been expressed about the events due to the worldwide spread of coronavirus.

Should the tournament go ahead as planned then Salah would miss the final stages of Liverpool's pre-season preparations as well as a possibly a Community Shield appearance and the opening week of the Premier League campaign.

Egyptian website Ahram Online report that Klopp wants to know more about Egypt's plans for the tournament before committing to decision on Salah.

"I hope Salah will join us, as do all the players, since he is a big star in the world of football and will be an addition to the team, especially since we aspire to win an Olympic medal," the same outlet quote Gharib as saying.

"We're not the decision makers right now, those are the English club, his coach Klopp, and Salah himself.

"We have delegated the EFA chairman to talk with the player."

Salah played for Egypt at the 2012 Olympics in the UK, but back then he was an emerging 20-year-old talent who had only just moved to European football at Basel.

Now a two-time African Footballer of the Year, Champions League winner and likely soon to be Premier League winner, it remains to be seen whether he will be receptive to or encourage a call-up.
