Jurgen Klopp says one thing is keeping his Liverpool players motivated for Cardiff trip

Jurgen Klopp has insisted his Liverpool players will have no motivation issues when they travel to Cardiff City on Sunday afternoon.

The Bluebirds currently occupy the final relegation spot in the Premier League table and are three points behind Brighton after their goalless draw with Wolves on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Reds have won their last eight games in all competitions and are aiming to wrestle back top spot in the table after Manchester City beat Tottenham 1-0 at the Etihad on Saturday.

On paper, Liverpool head to the Welsh capital as huge favourites and Klopp is not concerned about complacency settling in with his squad of players.

The Reds manager believes he has had no such issues since he joined the club in October 2015 and thinks the dangled carrot of first place will be enough to keep heads focused in the camp.

Cardiff were unfortunate to be on the end of a defeat to Chelsea last month when Cesar Azpilicueta scored from an offside position in a 2-1 reverse for Neil Warnock's side.

However, Warnock's men gave their survival hopes a shot in the arm with a 2-0 win against fellow strugglers Brighton on Tuesday.

"If you have to analyse the strengths of Cardiff, you will see they are physically so strong and cause so many teams problems," said Klopp.

Jurgen Klopp delivers stirring Premier League title message as double-chasing Liverpool attempt to make history

"It was three weeks ago they should have won against Chelsea. They went 1-0 up and conceded an offside goal, probably in football, everyone saw that.

"It’s not new to us and we have no problems with motivation. Maybe if you are 10th in the league and you go to Cardiff, maybe it could be a problem.

"Perhaps one or two players in the team will think: 'really?' but we haven't had that situation since I’ve been here to be honest.

"The boys have always showed outstanding character and know the importance of the situation. But of course, we have to speak about what we want to do, have to do and what the opponent is doing.

"So there is a lot to talk about and we will do that."
