Jurgen Klopp says new deal with Liverpool will help with transfers

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says that signing a contract extension will help him with the future recruitment of players.

The Reds boss was already tied down until 2022 but today he penned a new deal that runs to 2024.

Klopp said: “The club was asking for a while already, if we could talk about an extension

“From a specific moment onwards I thought it makes sense before things are getting a bit intense.

“Not now, it's completely calm and exactly like it should be but maybe in the summer we would have started again talking about things like that, new players when you want to bring them in, they ask how long manager here as stuff like that.

“So it's done, I'm happy with that.

“We agreed the contract on a really bad weather day but I'm used to it so that's ok.

“We're a really happy family, Pep (Lijnders) and Pete (Krawietz)

“I'm really happy that we can be part of this wonderful journey for a bit longer.”

He added: “We know there will problems in the future like there were in the past, like today, but I think it makes sense we have somebody who knows the club to help solve them because another guy would have to do that.

“I think the club is in a good place. We still have the chance to develop a lot of things.

“There are a lot of exciting things coming up with the new academy, maybe a new stand, stuff like this.

“There's still a lot to come. Cloudy days as well. You need to be there and make decisions. I feel responsible for all the things here.

“I wanted to sort this thing, we did that, great.”

The announcement of Klopp's new deal came just a day after it emerged that Liverpool are planning to bring Red Bull Salzburg's Takumi Minamino to Anfield in January.

Asked about the transfer target, Klopp said: “There's nothing else to say about it actually.

“We will speak about it at the right moment like we do with all transfers and potential transfers, when it's sorted, not earlier.

“Very good player – I can say that. I saw a few good players in the Salzburg team. Much more than I wanted to, especially in the first half.”
