Jurgen Klopp's worried reaction to Man City signing Erling Haaland speaks volumes

Jurgen Klopp admitted it's unfortunate Manchester City are signing Erling Haaland as he makes Liverpool's title rivals that bit stronger ahead of next season.

Man City met Haaland's Dortmund release clause and an agreement in principle has been reached between the two parties, with the deal subject to personal terms being finalised.

Reacting to the news, following Liverpool's 2-1 win over Aston Villa, which keeps the Reds hot on Man City's heels in the title race, Klopp said: "[He's a] good player!

"But City was never and will never be a team that wins games because of one player. I think Erling will realise all of a sudden he will score a lot of goals on the second post, where he just puts a foot in, so he will love that.

"How much better does he make them? A lot! Unfortunately, he's a really good signing."

A Man City statement confirmed the signing on Tuesday.

It read: "Manchester City can confirm we have reached an agreement in principle with Borussia Dortmund for the transfer of striker Erling Haaland to the Club on 1st July 2022.

"The transfer remains subject to the Club finalising terms with the player."

Haaland is believed to have agreed to a five-year contract with City, which will see him earn £400,000 per week plus bonuses.

Haaland passed his medical on Monday after Man City beat the likes of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Barcelona in the race for the forward.

The 21-year-old Norwegian will follow in his father's footsteps by joining City after Alf-Inge represented the Manchester club from 2000 to 2003.
